Science Platfom UsageLeanne Guy
  • To date, there are only about 8 users from Science Collaborations active in stack-club and on lspdev. Most are from DESC with one from Galaxies and one from Stars, Milky Way & Local Volume. I would like to encourage greater participation in stack-club from all LSST SCs.

LSP Design Review

Gregory Dubois-Felsmann

Gregory Dubois-Felsmann will present the plans for the upcoming design review of the LSST Science Platform

  • The mini-broker, though not formally declared as part of the LSP will be included, focusing on the interfaces exposed via the LSP rather than the capabilities
  • The scope is broad and will focus on some of the less mature aspects of the platform - we have avenues for the more mature parts already (notebook aspect)
  • Focus on usability, interfaces, intuitiveness.
    • Is service X provided in a way that scientists will want to u
  • Concerns were raised about the review committee membership:
    • Just asking the various stakeholders to nominate reviewers might result in committee lacking in the required experience on archive design/ DB access, experience, etc.
    • Ideally we want a good mix. Higher level review committees have asked us for feedback on how we will respond to science cases. e.g Is the currently defined search radius of 1 arc minute for point-to-point joins sufficient? Would like to get large scale structure and MW people involved.
    • More thought is required for how to put together a good committee. We should consider making suggestions rather than just asking for nominations; we want people prepared to think  substantively about how we will meet their science need.

  • DM-15605 - Getting issue details... STATUS Common memory seems to be for 12 months although this is not documented anywhere. The sizing model currently plans for 30 days from last observation for post-discovery forced photometry. Any changes could have a big effect on the sizing model. Colin Slater suggests doing forced photometry only for objects detected twice. This will be hashed out on the ticket
  • DM-15566 - Getting issue details... STATUS Simple correction of text to be implemented. A new ticket will be opened to discuss changing the value of L1PublicT.
  • DM-14843 - Getting issue details... STATUS DPDD wins here → push to Tim
  • Remaining tickets on DPDD will be grouped according to impact and put to LCR when ready
