Project/Science Updates
  • JSR committee comment:  "The committee notes that now might be an opportunity to catch up on leave or science time, and ensure the team is rested prior to the final pipeline delivery and data preview one (DP1)."
  • NSF approved the Operations 5yr proposal that was submitted in February. DOE is also on board with Operations long term planning, but they do not approve things for 5 years in the same way. Operations has a FY23-24 plan with DOE that is expected to continue.

DP0 "plus ones" for project staffMelissa Graham Rubin staff are welcome to identify a student/postdoc/colleague to work with them on DP0-related research. That person would be considered a "DP0 Delegate" and be given an account in the RSP at the IDF. All that is needed is for Rubin staff to fill out the "DP0.2 Plus One Request Form": https://forms.gle/kmRUqwxkGwZLMGmy8

  • Period finding on FF but use number of detections as the threshold
  • JC: Cut on number of detections before  or after other considerations, say,  scatter in historical flux
  • EB: Hadn't contemplated this but it is a good point to consider
  • 29K DMTN-102 estimate is quite a coarse estimate.
  • Asked SSSC - 4000 SSOs on a pointing by the end of the survey, so ~20 per CCD. Not a concern. Variables are more of the concern
  • Will commissioning images take on high-density fields? KB: Yes, we want to do this as early as possible as a stressor to understand how the sci pipelines react
  • CTS: Engineering issue here - long running processing.
    • More excess compute - less it hurts.
    • Can we prioritize the sources rather than all those in the visit - choose those whose periodicity was least recently updated. Don't need to update the periodicity each visit if we visit twice in a night
  • Pre-compute or compute during daytime - not sensitive to latest visit. Takes out of nightly processing - do this in
  • decouple time-critical from non time critical. Jamming all into sync. processing might cause resource issues. Having this as a route to turn on as need be.
  • JC: If you've previously measured a period for an object, could you simply put the new observation into a phased light-curve, and only trigger re-fitting if it's an "outlier" relative to the existing light curve?
    • EB: Great idea + not necessarily updating every time. Age of period as metadata.
  • What about in year 6: are we still running period search on the last 12 months? Most of the variables will be . Most value is in the early survey
  • Too early to take to DMLT - need more concrete numbers
Status of verification campaigns

  • RSP-A: Complete, most tests passed, some deviations. Concluding this week.
  • DM: 22 or 50 executed. Bit optimistic about what could  be done. About half we might have to be descoped from this campaign.
