Zeljko Ivezic has agreed to extend an open invitation to all DM-SST members to attend the PST presentations to the science collaborations. Attendance is not mandatory. Information on these meetings is here: https://www.lsst.org/content/lsst-information-scientists

  • SciCollabs have been happy with these series of meetings. Roughly once per month.
  • Next meeting in 12 days, by Chuck and Bob Blum on commissioning data. Definitely of interest to SST.
  • "Early Operations Team" under Blum will do their best to distribute commissioning data, as soon as possible. RHL: DM has to get ready for this too.
  • Leanne Guy will post the schedule of these meetings to the SST.
  • Meetings are Wednesdays 2pm-3pm Pacific

Options for Alert production in Y1 of operations

  • DMTN-107, options for Year 1 AP
  • Settled last time on making templates from commissioning data, use them for Y1 alerts.
  • Added details now, supposed to be going to the PST. Posted the three biggest questions to Slack.
  • OSS-0158 defines "template noise level" for Y1 and Y2.
  • RHL: We should change it, let's not define the survey based on these noise requirements.
  • Eric: as written, doesn't make much sense. Gives constraints on what scheduled, and gives boundary conditions on when we have to meet completeness & purity reqs.
  • Eric: Punt Year 1 aspect of OSS-0158, but keep the rest of the req.
  • Melissa: Requirements like this influence how commissioning is run.
  • GPDF: We do have to commission AP during commissioning, that's a given.

As discussed on the SST slack channel, we will fix the mistakes in the flowdown in this ticket. We can review the strategy with DESC at a later date and submit a new LCR if necessary


  • Was trying to remove a duplicate requirement, and found that the flowdown was broken. Tried to take the SRD language and reflect it in the new OSS requirements.
  • There's a separate question of whether these requirements are appropriate.
  • Decided to decouple these two steps, LCR-1554 is just doing the flow-down.
  • Consensus that LCR-1554 is good to go.
Plan for "Phase 2" of weak lensing specificationsMichael Wood-Vasey
  • MWV will write up a proposal for measuring rho 1 through 5 (Jarvis 2015) as part of science validation.
  • RHL: We won't know how the SRD numbers relate to the rho numbers?
  • MWV: According to Mike Jarvis, the SRD specs are generally consistent with rho1 and rho2 and not crazy.
  • Leanne asked MWV to describe what a test plan this fall would look like; more details on what this means in the future.
