DMLT Meeting Goals

  • Weekly meeting to keep the DM leadership team coordinated, informed, and in agreement on the vision, priorities, and challenges facing DM construction, including surfacing and resolving issues and ambiguities needing our attention. The goal of this meeting is to provide information and decisions that help each one of us better direct our own (or our team's) activities.

Discussion Items

Guidelines: Propose items in line with the meeting rationale (see above); include as much information in the agenda notes; summarize, don't go into details while on the call; maximize time available for discussion.

Notes

Project updates
  • PST meeting happening today at SLAC.
    • “Conversations are many and robust” about staffing, providing support for T&S, etc.
  • Focus on preparation for the JSR.
    • Preliminary list of reviewers available; see the JDR2019/JSR2019 confluence page. “A very experienced and capable team; surprisingly technical” says Victor.
    • Also a draft charge floating around. I haven't seen it posted publicly, so I won't do so here; however, from a quick scan, there is nothing surprising.
    • There will be an EV surveillance in parallel with the JSR. No details about which CAMs will be selected.
    • Steve Kahn will be in Tucson next week, planning review strategy.
  • Eclipse tomorrow. A couple of LSST folks on site; “maybe they'll get a photo”.
  • LCR-1725 is a schedule update for ComCam integration and associated contingency draw.
    • Ready to go on the NSF side; still needs more work on DOE.
    • My understanding this is formalizing the schedule that we are already working to.
  • Naming.
    • Apparently, an amendment to H.R.3196 to use the word “observatory” has been accepted, but this is sufficiently recent that it hasn't made it to the website yet.
    • However, Victor cautions that there is so much “churn” going on behind the scenes that we shouldn't take any of this too literally yet.
  • Problems with sensors on corner rafts.
    • “Dead” segments were approved by prior LCR, however now they are seen to be “glowing”.
    • No good alternatives to replace them with.
    • Not clear what the impact is.
    • Memo being made available today by the Camera team to PST & LSST leadership; not clear what the next action will be.
  • Debating how to ship L1/L2 — apparently issues regulating temperature in the shipping container.
  • Minor safety incident at the base last week: cleaner was sent to hospital after getting chemicals in their eye. Later released to work; full recovery expected.
  • Reminder to managers in Tucson: if you want people to stay at the hotel during the PCW, please get on it.
  • ESnet network agreement signed.
