Description

The PST has requested that DM Science study the scientific implications of moving to 1x30s snap as opposed to 2x15s snaps.  The goal is to ensure we can do single snap per visit and understand the scientific implications.  The baseline remains 2*15s snaps  until further notice.

  1. In the unlikely event that we could actually rule out doing multiple snaps per visit (or treat that as a risk rather than part of the baseline), it would make the Butler data model a *lot* simpler.  Of course, we'd need to also know that soon (which I judge to be even more unlikely) to be able to reap the benefits of that simplification.

    1. Steve K was very clear that this is not an option he wants to invoke until needed as going back from it would be almost impossible.

  2. Well, Steve K. also said that we'd keep them if it was low-cost to keep the 2 snaps (I sort-of agree with him, although I am not in favour of actually running the survey this way).  If we can e.g. cut the hardware budget significantly I think he's willing to entertain the proposal now.
