DM-12584 "clarify the role of fake source implantation in Level 1 detection efficiencies"
DM-19308 "Detection efficiencies for Difference Images" (child task of DM-12584)
This project will partially address ticket PST-17
In this context, a “Detection Efficiency” is:
- the probability that the transient/variable component is detected in difference imaging
- a function of the variable flux, local surface brightness, image quality, airmass, etc
Melissa, Eric, Leanne
- Summarize existing requirements in LSST documentation regarding detection efficiencies
- Identify scientific opportunities and risks that depend on DM-provided detection efficiencies
- Explore technical pathways to the generation of detection efficiencies (i.e, fake source injection)
- GOAL: Recommend the DM deliverable, and its creation method, for detection efficiencies
- EXPECTED OUTCOME: A project-facing document (DMTN) which details the above.
Project Updates in Reverse Chronological Order.
Fri Jul 19: DM-19308 has been updated, as has the draft DMTN, and a slide deck for future presentation at a DM-SST meeting created and uploaded to DM-19308.
Wed June 12: DM-19308 has been set to "in progress" and work on the draft DMTN is proceeding at https://github.com/MelissaGraham/dmtn-tbd-deteffs
Initial Notes To Do Next:
- Check that the OSS requirements properly flow-down to the DMSR
- Circulate "existing requirements" summary to solicit feedback
- Then proceed with the science drivers and implementation options
- re-verify with KT that the computational system is sized to handle fake injection
