Discussion items

  Timelines & Milestones Review

<all>

Baseline Milestones Spreadsheet Review and Checkup:

No status update available from Vera Rubin Observatory, but from a NET co-chairs meeting the previous week, start of production data taking is now Dec, 2024.

La Serena ↔ SLAC PS MaDDash:

MaDDash Dashboard - Check Results (ampath.net)

The La Serena ↔ SLAC PerfSONAR (PS) measurements indicated a period of ~60 hrs of latency changes (suggestive of path changes), starting on 1/10.  Packet loss during these fluctuations appeared minimal.  Jeronimo reported a failover on the Santiago/Sao Paulo Amlight link during that period.  Sergio reported on some transitions between their primary and backup LHN paths.  In addition, there some work-related changes in Jacksonville, and some perfSONAR service modifications as well.

There was further discussion on the high number of retransmits on transfers from the USDF to La Serena.  The issue is still under investigation, with both SLAC and ESnet engaged.

Update on CONUS Networks

Kate Robinson

Jeronimo Bezerra

CONUS Networks, including ESnet:

  • ESnet (Kate):  The single jumper x-connect in ATL is now in place;  optics are being replaced.  Should be ready to go in a week.  The tie cable procurement remains in progress.
  • FIU (Jeronimo):  Everything is ready; just waiting for the ESnet x-connect to be in place, and to sync up the efforts to bring the path up.

Official ask for 2nd backup circuit?

Chilean/International Networks Update

Julio Constanzo

Sergio Cofre

Jeronimo Bezerra

Developments in La Serena and end-to-end service

  • REUNA (Sergio):  Nothing significant to report.
  • AmLight (Jeronimo):  The new Sao Paulo - Buenos Aires network path (option 2 for the Huawei bypass) is ready.  PerfSONAR tests across the new segment look clean.

USDF - CC-IN2P3 Networks update

Mark Foster

Frederic Loui

USDF - CC- IN2P3 network:

  • USDF (Mark):  Nothing significant to report.  Progress continues on the deployment of the USDF.

Service Provider VNOC Support Updates

LHN Service Providers

Developments toward VNOC deployment

The target schedule for VNOC deployment is to have a functioning VNOC service ready in Sept (2024).  The expectation is that all LHN service providers will provide updates on their plans, issues, and milestones for interfacing to the GNOC.  This will include the three transit network service providers (REUNA, AmLight, & ESnet), and the two end sites (Vera Rubin Observatory & SLAC/USDF).  It will be highly desirable to have Data Management level contribution as well.

GNOC Services Discussion & Update

David Ripley (GNOC)

Corey Donovan (GNOC)

Jon Sherk (GNOC)

The GNOC's (David Ripley) primary objective for next week's meeting (1/25) is to receive feedback from the service providers on the viability and concerns on the approach they have been presenting.  The document provided in the rubinobs-lhn Slack channel back on 11/14, as well as the slides provided on 12/21 can serve starting points for service provider familiarization.
