Update on ESnet agreement

Jeff Kantor

Reminder: Work on your items

Monthly ESNet stakeholder meeting held   did not work out final funding split between LSST DOE and ASCR, nor mechanism for transferring NSF MREFC funds to ESnet, but reaffirmed general agreement to proceed.Waiting for confirmation from DOE and from Inder he has the go ahead with implementation. 2x40 at beginning of fiscal year 2020. 2x100 in 2022. Jeff Kantor will produce a 2-3 page summary of plan and funding summary, and will report results once formal agreement is in place. Unknown User (kollross) NCSA can support 40G circuits from ESnet. No additional work at 600 Chicago, probably not at 710 Lakeshore, will check. Primary connection will be at 600, secondary at 710. Find out if it will be ESNet responsibility to get their optical link connected to MREN link. (ACTION)

Network Design and End-to-End Test Plan and QoS planning

Installing storage in new DTN (same as SC18) in Miami, 100G and 40G NICs. Ready for testing next week.

LSST Network SC18 Demonstration:

Press release (EXISTING ACTION ITEMS)

Technical report (EXISTING ACTION ITEMS)

LSST Network Engineering Meeting April 18, 2019 Santiago

Proposed Agenda items:

  • Goal: work on the NET agenda over the next few weeks.
  • Documentation - How IPs assigned, Vlans, firewall, ... There’s a security group at NCSA asking for the above information. Data Center in La Serena is coming online in 2019. NCSA team prepping for when to move equipment into this data center. NCSA will be involved in security at the base station, they are asking Matt for taps and other active equipment that should be purchased. NCSA will be configuring and packaging equipment to then send to LSST DC in LS. Documents LSE-78 and 309 are high level documents. Luis Coral is documenting more details on site. Detailed design documentation. REUNA has documentation on the DWDM system that’s not in LSST documents. Some REUNA documentation has been provided through deliverables. Some of the information NCSA is requesting could be in those documents. Recommendation: spend time before workshop and at the workshop to improve the documentation.
  • Virtual NOC - What is the VNOC, what are the tools? Need a good solid implementation by end of FY19.
  • ESnet and Miami/BR - ATL
  • QoS, E2E Testing - Now have equipment in Chile to support testing. Put lab config into production.
  • 2019 Demonstration
  • (Suggestions... to JK by end of January)

REUNA will organize location, etc. Need head count by March.

Assume those who cannot attend in person will videoconference from their home institutions.

Can other sources of funding be identified to ease burden on LSST budget, particularly for those also going to SAACC

SAACC Meeting list is not same list as NET. Who else beyond NET members?

Notify JK if anyone wants to make a trip to La Serena. Ron L will be there before and after SAACC/NET meetings. Sooner JK is informed the better. Jeronimo and Matt responded that they have no need to travel to La Serena.

Other businessAny

Sandra Jaque REUNA included Claudia Inostroza, cinostro@reuna.cl of network operations in this meeting and future.

Unknown User (rlambert) Status LS - Santiago AURA Network 4 x 10 G links? Sandra Jaque Expect to be complete in 2 weeks.
