0810Requirements Clarifications and Verification PlansJeff Kantor

Update:

Nothing new to report.

0815Network Design and End-to-End Test Plan and QoS planning

Network design for the U.S. networks:

JB presented a new diagram addressing single points of failure at the link and site levels.

Bandwidth reservation with the orange link.  If LSST is migrated to orange, QoS policies would provide LSST with bandwidth requirements.

MK: Is Jacksonville dependent/hanging off on Atlanta?

JB: No it's not.  Internet2 has multiple paths out of Jacksonville to get to Chicago.

JK: clarification of the ESnet connections.  Black circle is optical protection?

JB - No, it is path diversity using ESnet and 100 Gbps B/W (not 2 x 100 Gbps). Option to suggest to ESnet.

JK - Let's get technical discussion approval first, then suggest this there.

QoS:

JB reported that progress has been made on devices by VA.   Metering, policing, shaping and other protocols have been tested. Weighted Fair Queing is the approach that has shown very good results.

JB showed a diagram to represent the network topology that was simulated. Each traffic type was a different vlan. Goal: prioritization in a shared link scenario.  No policing or traffic type constraints.   Results will be provided in a report.  Will test a variety technologies in the AmLight environment.

Strategy:

Each operator can provide their own QoS solution in response to LSST SLA requirements. QoS will only work if it's end to end.

MK: Will be hard sell.

JB: Any networks that have shared links will have to respond to SLA requirement.

JK: do not have to commit to a particular solution at this time.  Multiple paths between Chic and NCSA.  Let’s continue on to the exploration.  At some point NCSA will sign off on something they can live with.

JB: still have to test legacy devices.  Dell and Brocade.  Plan to hear something in next 2 weeks.

0845First fiber optic light event planning

Reports from leads regarding ADASS demonstration:

Unknown User (rlambert) Cerro Pachon - La Serena.

No updates.  Waiting for DWDM devices installation.
SJ: have to define a date.  Was planned for next week.  May start on the following week (Oct 21).  Postponed because of finishing link in SCL.  There's a power issue in Pachon.  Plan is to start at end of Oct.  Goal is to finish by mid Nov.

Jeronimo Bezerra Santiago - Chicago, overall architecture/plan.

Albert Astudillo for Sandra Jaque La Serena - Santiago, connectivity to ADASS hotel, presentation design, INRIA involvement, fall-back Chile only demonstration.

Scheduled to implement link to Level 3.  Fiber cut delayed.

Servers in the rack (AA).  Should be ready by tomorrow (SJ).  SJ will inform JB as soon as available.
If 100G connectivity is delayed, can test with 10G links to test with the servers.
Current connectivity is 20G (AA).
(JB) Maddash is showing good performance.  Once servers are ready, we can start testing.
Several requirements for demo are not yet delivered.  For example, Cross connects not yet delivered.
JK: Exercises in preparation for LSST demo at the end of the year.
SJ: Opportunity to show how the network is being constructed, and REUNA participating in ADASS.  Showing new impressive performance figure in the demo at ADASS.
JK: Helping prepare for an LSST event later in the year.
JK: Throughput capacity for demo?
JB: can reach up to 60Gbps with the number of NICs in the servers.
Transceivers are needed to start testing.  Luis Corral will ship transceivers to Albert.
NCSA can provide up to 6 10G ports.
Preparations are going well.
MK: Clarification of the ADASS demo. Requirements for ADASS and LSST demo the same?
JB: Yes.  At this point.

Unknown User (kollross) Chicago - Champaign.

Jeff Kantor Requirements.
