The main theme for the short (X16) cycle is an all-team sprint (our first!) to stand up an MVP QA service based around the "ci_lauren" usecase running on HSC data on a skeleton SQuaSH architecture. The goal is to shake down our provisional technology stack while also resulting in a useful service for users. Obviously we are leveraging work delivered previously such as the CI system, the stack images/dockers, validate_drp, the gitLFS service and exploratory work on most remaining components.

We also have to service the W16 release, whose goal is to feature first party binaries, and preparation for the KPM Verification CoDR. We would like to fit in the conclusion of the W16 work on "Jenkins publish".

As usual there have also been some direct requests for the time of specific engineers from other groups (in and out of DM). We try to be good citizens, but during X16 are only accepting requests that would block other teams if we turned them down.

In order to make credible progress at those two goals, most work that would normally follow on from W16 is now pushed to F16 at the earliest. SQuaRE receives a lot of user requests for small features and bug fixes; for this cycle only, these will be heavily triaged. Due to its short length, hopefully this will only be a small inconvenience to developers.

Development sprint

The MVP features for this service are to allow a user to trigger a job that performs a small QA run on a fixed dataset using a QA super task version of DM-4730; store the results in the QA tables of the LSST database; expose them to a dashboard that allows a user to interact with them; collect logs (execution details and scalar metrics) and expose those to user search; an overview technote on the provisional architectural and implementation choices.

Exploratory work already undertaken:

Science verification

  • Work will continue on precursor dataset processing, in particular the COSMOS data

Documentation

  • Work to deploy the LSST-the-docs in-house Read-The-Docs-style hosting platform carried out in W16 will be wrapped up. http://sqr-006.lsst.io/en/latest/
  • A document describing the DM communications platforms and setting out what communication strategies can be supported on them needs be presented to management on March 22nd. [sqr-011 in prep]
  • The plan for the KPM Verification CoDR will be produced

Stack RE

  • We will prep the W16 official stack release
  • First party conda binaries will be produced, though the automatic production of them may not be fully ready.
  • Work on OSX CI will continue as timing and resources allow

Ongoing

  • Requests about deployed services (strictly triaged)
  • No labels
