Notes

  • Unknown User (aguyonnet)
    • Has been looking at the “Angstrom exponent” (the exponent in the power law describing the aerosol optical depth).
    • Has downloaded all the data covering Hawaii and CTIO for the last 8 years, and has made some plots.
    • MERRA2 tabulates this only as 2D; there is not altitude dimension.
      • Given that, won't use this in the paper.
      • But may discuss it with others.
    • Large offset between CTIO and Mauna Kea.
    • Made plots easier to read; easier to pick out annual variation.
    • Improved statistics; using them to refine final figure in the paper.
    • Working on discussion of when to use in-situ data vs. satellite data.
      • This involves building the profile through the atmosphere; that work is ongoing.
      • Will claim that ozone is well monitored by MERRA, water vapour is not, trying to close in on aerosols
  • Merlin Fisher-Levine
    • Defects code merged (DM-18051)
    • Helping Andrés.
    • Working on Craig Lage's BF pull request.
      • This has been taking quite a while due to extensive discussion required with Craig.
      • Jim Chiang wants to talk about validating BF kernels for run 1.2i; Merlin will be doing this in science time.
      • Useful to keep tabs on what DESC is doing.
      • Thinking now seems to be to do only per-amplifier BF kernels.
    • Coming this week: fixing up the Craig Lage PR, continuing to help Andrés Alejandro Plazas Malagón.
      • May also be able to work on Atmospec gain measurement ticket. Worried that AuxTel flats given calculated gains don't look very flat. Somebody needs to get to the bottom of this, but it's not an immediate priority.
      • Following that, we go back to the AuxTel and try to work out a schedule. That'll involve a couple of weeks of Merlin work, then a discussion of schedules and priorities with RHL.
  • Andrés Alejandro Plazas Malagón
    • Working on defects for AuxTel (DM-18749); iterating with Merlin on answering a bunch of questions about the structure of the data.
    • Also looking at crosstalk for the AuxTel chip using cosmic rays in darks (DM-18050).
      • Talking to Chris Waters on this.
      • Got existing code running; now has to make sense of the numbers.
    • Attending AuxTel meetings on Friday.
    • Met with both Pierres & Andrei this morning, discussing plans for CTE etc; see Pierre Astier's paper on the shape of the photon transfer curve.
      • Now under DESC review.
      • Code will be forthcoming to Andres.
      • And then there will be a document, which we can discuss in DM and elsewhere.
    • Gains (DM-18052):
      • (per earlier discussion with Merlin)
      • Trying to track down the provenance of gains displayed on Confluence.
      • Otherwise, trying to calculate gains from pairs of flats (which is what Merlin already did).
      • Not clear that we understand what data is available and what the plan is for taking more. Given that, this work may be premature. Should discuss with Robert Lupton.
      • Maybe useful to have Andrés help with analyzing data.
    • Continuing with defects and crosstalk this week, as well as thinking about gains.
