DM Verification Plan and Review

Jeff Kantor

Kian-Tat Lim

Met with System Engineering, agreed to provide update to our requirements for Simulations by Christmas, and do a "conceptual design" level review of the DM Verification Plan in April, 2016.

Kian-Tat Lim we need DM requirements updated as a prerequisite to a "full" plan. Simulations are anything that is not "real data", catalogs, etc. Needs to acknowledge that certain things are testable with limited fidelity simulations, others not testable by simulations. Simulations group needs to determine if they can do it, and "prove" that they have met our criteria for them to be usable. Mario Juric this is not an exercise in trying to find more areas to use them, only to define those areas where we think they can be useful.

Upcoming conferencesJeff Kantor
      • There were talks on detecting low surface brightness objects, might help fill a gap in data products (Noise Chisel, Oddity).
      • SkyMapper may be interested in using DM stack
      • Mashish talk (MJ fill in...)
      • Good talks on virtualization and infrastructure, most are using containers and VMs in data centers, OpenStack and cloud
      • STScI showed prototype JWST pipelines, almost same as our pipetasks (but still using our early abandoned approach of passing blobs), we need to collaborate (on middleware and other things, e.g. AstroPy)
      • Mario Juric now on organizing panel for "Detecting the Unexpected" workshop in about 1 year
