Options for supporting more community broker streams
  • Should have some options ready circa the SAC meeting at PCW.
  • Options might include:
    • Light packets.
    • Relaxed latency
    • Clones of the PPDB. Use the PPDB-dump as the transmission mechanism
    • "throw money at the problem"
      • Either more bandwidth at NCSA, or setup mirrors in different locations. Either controlled by LSST, or an in-kind contribution
    • "Cloud", undetermined economic model. Let users stand up clients close to the alert stream.
    • Multiple topics with some pre-filtering?
      • i.e. solar system broker
    • KT: if we're cutting down the streams, then NCSA can host more.
  • CTS: "worst case" commercial cost of a no-history, no-postage stamp stream is only $8-10k/year, on AWS or similar. Useful backdrop for the problem; we shouldn't be worrying about complicated mechanisms if it's only to save $10k's.
  • MWV: if had to go to the SAC tomorrow, present the full non-cutdown $20k/year number. They're not worrying about the $10k number in detail, they more concerned about the science benefits of the Nth stream.
  • KT: We're doing an AWS POC right now, can we spin up a test? Eric: Maria did that, we could use Maria's work.
  • Could test how fast we can egress a single visit, to multiple locations.
  • Eric: Like to have the SAC recommend a direction they'd like us to go. Tell the SAC: as constituted today you can pick 5, tell us if and how you would like us to work to modify that if the science from additional brokers is compelling (and here are some potential directions).
Addressing old SST tickets
  • DM-9046 – Robert has been worried by this for a long time, but has assumed that the project can't update their plans to solve it. Jim: DM's requirements are on the measurements of colors. Translate it into those numbers? MWV: What is our exposure-to-exposure calibration requirement? Jim: If we can't close the ticket, we should reorient it to what we need to do in terms of after-the-fact correction, or can we reframe in terms of the metrics our requirements say we must meet?
  • DM-12150: Wil wants a provenance review. Middleware could do that, but would delay other work. Will add text to DPDD following from that summary.
  • DM-15676: Melissa will write a summary of the core question, add it to the ticket, get reviewed by Leanne and then close.
  • DM-12004, mark as wontfix, no real disagreements.
Emergent Business

  • MWV attended stack club, they're planning for PCW meeting.
  • Don't want to merge stack club with DM hack room at PCW.
  • Does stack club want a DM rep present?
