DateActivityDescription and Details
April 2018Archiver machine shipped from NSCA to Tucson (April 1st).
  • For installation into AuxTel test stand.
May 2018"Simple" implementation of Gen3 middleware.
  • i.e. gen3 butler + superTask
June 2018

Spectrograph Test Stand Operations

(Rehearsal is LDM-503-04b, which is currently in PMCS as June 1st).

  • Need NFS export of files in Tucson.
  • Need ability to pull files off DAQ and decide which get forwarded to NCSA for archiving.
  • Nice to have a "developer-level" instance of the Science Platform for accessing raw data (notebook only).
  • Note: have ability to generate spectra with a lamp at this point.
RHL: What access to data will be available in Tucson, in particular is there a butler? Is there any automatic mode to move everything to NCSA (with pruning done later)? Is there butler access in NCSA? Where would the Science Platform be running (Tucson or NCSA?) What sort of EFD is available, in Tucson and maybe NCSA? What sort of header service is planned (may not be essential)?
August 2018Some version of spectrophotometric algorithm wrapped in script form.
  • Hope is that this is implemented in Gen3 middleware, but will use whatever version is stable at this point.
RHL: What is required here? Why does it need to be in "script form" (e.g. is there automatic processing)? I would anticipate that any code we have would in fact be runnable, but why is this explicitly needed here? Is this a milestone for the calibration group?
November 2018Spectrograph assembled in AuxTel Dome (Nov 30th).
  • Per Patrick: this date could slip a little based on hardware and site readiness.
  • Need ability to pull files off DAQ and forward to NCSA for archiving. Desire flexibility to decide which files get forwarded. A lot of these data will be junk at first.
RHL Same questions as for "Spectrograph Test Stand Operations"
  • Around this time NCSA sends to Chile: ITC (possibly what is in Tucson test stand), ITC staff (maybe) for installation, and Jim Parsons for onsite integration and support.
Base Data Center available (tentative)
  • Need to move IT security systems out of the NOAO Base Facility to new Data Center. This will be done as a "flag day" coordinated with Chilean ITC group.
RHL are there any concerns that the security systems will make it hard to work on auxTel remotely (e.g. from NJ?)
January 2019DRP spectrophotometric pipeline payload ready in Gen3 middleware framework (late January).
  • LDF begins integration into production system.
Spectrograph First Light on AuxTel (Jan 28th).
  • "Begin to get real data."
June 2019Routine Data Collection with Spectrograph (June 30th).
  • Begin production processing of spectrophotometric pipeline.
  • Need Science Validation Instance of Science Platform.
RHL This production processing implies running calibration pipelines etc. too; how is the scheduled and managed? Who is doing QA on all these reductions?
EFD at Base
  • Begin deployment for EFD ETL service.
  • Need to confirm with Chuck that LDF can delay commissioning cluster deployment until this time.
  • Will need to move the Summit AuxTel archiving system to the new Base Center. Coordinate downtime with AuxTel operations.
  • No labels
