DMLT Meeting Goals

  • Weekly meeting to keep the DM leadership team coordinated, informed, and in agreement on the vision, priorities, and challenges facing DM construction, including surfacing and resolving issues and ambiguities needing our attention. The goal of this meeting is to provide information and decisions that help each one of us better direct our own (or our team's) activities.

Discussion Items

Guidelines: Propose items in line with the meeting rationale (see above); include as much information in the agenda notes; summarize, don't go into details while on the call; maximize time available for discussion.

Notes

Project updates
  • Mention of LSP review - will coordinate with Victor.
  • Community Broker workshop.. this is a project meeting. Do we need admin?  (Michelle potentially to travel) None from UW.  Leanne and Eric organizing .. John to check support. Meeting in UW hotel.  Do we need Badges? Emily ? Travel ....for some non-DM attendees mentioned by Steve - need to discuss budget.
  • Member reps meeting (from the AURA member institutions). Leanne, Simon, Wil, Ranpal - names given to Nanci. None to dinner. Bob Blum will go for ops.  Format of short talk and demo with further info to get involved.
  • Seeking 2.5 days format for Directors Review.
    • Expect fairly minimal attendance from DM.
    • But more people will be needed for the status review.
  • All inputs in for the review recommendations response done document will be issued soon.
  • Ed Ajhar at SLAC; saw the clean room. Some questions on refrigerant, vacuum vessels and electric code in Chile.
  • NSF Large Facilities Workshop last week.
    • Ranpal's track on communication had 50 attendees average.
    • Discussed rename.  No policy on rebranding from NSF in the offing despite a year delay on rename. NSF have requested potential names. Decision in July supposedly. There will be no broad request for name suggestions. Simonyi for telescope...need name for the survey I understand NSF will pick that. Rename must be done by December 2020 aim for AAS January. NSF award for LSST probably due to GAO audit success. Given to Daniel, Ranpal, Amanda, Kristin
  • Victor in Chile next week Chuck and Mike Rodriguez as well.
AMCL updates

AMCL last week. No new issues request for specific topics next time. Final report soon. Alex requested table of sizes of different tables like object lite. This was passed on. May be more fundamental questions on queries to come.

RFC-243 (Request for a regularly updated pipeline output dataset)
  • Per DMLT action, Gregory Dubois-Felsmann & John Swinbank discussed this last week.
  • Topic of discussion was to what extent existing work (particularly regular reprocessing of HSC data by Hsin-Fang) meet the spirit and/or the letter of RFC-243.
  • Conclusion was “mostly, but there is still work to be done”.
  • There's a plan of campaign on the RFC, which requests input from various stakeholders (most prominently Fritz Mueller , but also a bunch of others). I will start chasing folks next week (ie, after the LSP review) to turn this into ticketed work.
