DMLT Meeting Goals

  • Weekly meeting to keep the DM leadership team coordinated, informed, and in agreement on the vision, priorities, and challenges facing DM construction, including surfacing and resolving issues and ambiguities needing our attention. The goal of this meeting is to provide information and decisions that help each one of us better direct our own (or our team's) activities.

Wil O'Mullane

  • AMCL
    • In Tucson January 16,17, TSS will be on the agenda. 
    • System Engineering also.
    • Need highlights from DM as well (first week of Jan).
  • AAS
    • Table at career day
    • SE commissioning hires
    • DM Tutorial
  • Safety in Chile: need to identify lead (Chuck is now NCOA safety officer). 
  • Admin search
    • Six candidates.
    • Offer needs to be sent to top candidate; some internal confusion about getting this done.
    • May be rebalancing tasks internally; there will not be a separate DM admin.
  • Networks
    • Cost of networks $750k per year during Operations
    • Could also use ESNET (which is DOE)  which costs less in Ops but up 850K up front (OSCAR covers the rest).
    • DOE can not cover this as construction - options need to be discussed but looks like this should all go on MREFC. Would like to have decision by end of year.
  • Identity management review early next year
    • Needs a member from each subsystem. 
    • Need to nominate somebody from DM.
  • Two options for reducing base DAC & infrastructure cost; aiming to avoid a budget overrun. Savings in the range $1-1.5M. Jeff Kantor is exploring the lower impact option; should have this in hand by the end of the holidays.
  • Telescope & Site Software
    • Andy Clements interim team lead pending availability of Kevin Robison.
    • Planning for AuxTel pointing and on sky.
    • New epics in new Jira project (TSS team under DM)
    • Connecting that to new WBSs (9 not 30+) in P6.
  • ITRFC-18
    • Accessing remote visualization tools from the base.
    • Apparently proposing both fastx and VNC as standards for this.
    • Changing applications to be web-based and not require these technologies is regarded as not viable.
