DMLT Meeting Goals

  • Weekly meeting to keep the DM leadership team coordinated, informed, and in agreement on the vision, priorities, and challenges facing DM construction, including surfacing and resolving issues and ambiguities needing our attention. The goal of this meeting is to provide information and decisions that help each one of us better direct our own (or our team's) activities.

Discussion Items

Guidelines: Propose items in line with the meeting rationale (see above); include as much information in the agenda notes; summarize, don't go into details while on the call; maximize time available for discussion.

Notes

Project updates
  • 6 interviews this week for admins (Libby & Sandra replacements).

  • T&S Software — various issues (instability in SAL, staffing problems) to be resolved this week.
  • TMA schedule difficult need to get through tests this week. Dome receipt schedule disappointing.  Bill/Victor meeting EIE next week re dome. Need to understand the impact. Need ETC for AMCL in January.
  • Key meetings: Big Bang. Aux Tel, M1M3 glass safety and pre-test review.

  • Bugs (“actual insects”) in open top containers arriving in Chile: AURA want fumigation and will delay us.

  • First risk meeting with new tool (Jira) on Friday.

  • We should close plan tickets and open a “make the test report” ticket when the plans are approved.
  • Some unclarity about the status of LDM-503-08/08b.
  • LDM-503-06 not started yet; execution of the plan is pending DAQ availability.
  • John Swinbank shift due date for LDM-503-06 test plan to March to better match with DAQ availability.
Planning for middleware

Planning meeting was held 11/16. Short term assignments/targets as follows:

November:

    • astro_metadata_translator for obs_lsst for DBB delivered to NCSA. (Tim)
    • laptop activator bug fixes / enhancements (Andy S.)

December:

    • DBB able to ingest raw data using astro_metadata translator. (NCSA)
    • BG3 registry views in Oracle implemented (NCSA)
    • Design subsetting interface (Michelle G. + Andy S.)
    • RFCs for other activators submitted (Andy S.)
    • Examples of PipelineTasks (Coaddition, ISR, processCCD) delivered to NCSA (Jim + Nate L. + Chris W.)

January:

    • Demo: ci_hsc (previously — ie, at the DMLT — PipelineTasks + coaddition — so this is an expansion of capability) on single node as PipelineTask through PipelineTask activator using BG3 (Jim et. al.)
    • Demo: TBD workflow without BG2 (NCSA)
    • Clear definition of Pegasus/BG3 interfaces (preflight, subset = repo from scratch, and merge) (NCSA)
Overdue RFCs
  • RFCs with "Planned end" past "now". (See query table below.)
  • RFC-538 does not actually specify the bandwidth available for alert streams, and does not therefore satisfy previous DMLT actions.
    • Not clear which document that should be recorded in; perhaps LDM-148.
    • Opportunity for new documentation here describing capabilities in operations.
  • Wil O'Mullane, Leanne Guy , John Swinbank , Zeljko Ivezic — coordinate production of document describing when & how operational capabilities will be made available (e.g., when do alerts become available? What is the latency? What is the bandwidth? etc)
Technical papers
  • T/CAMs to think about technical papers which could be written as part of commissioning.
    • e.g. Qserv.
  • We should think about an A&C special edition.
  • Leanne Guy — forward list of science papers from commissioning to the DMLT.
Trailed star cadenceSimon Krughoff
  • David Thomas (Camera Team) working on a cadence white paper on trailed stars.
    • And wants a GPU cluster at the base or NCSA to help.
  • This is an enhancement; it is not of immediate relevance to DM construction and will go for SAC review.
