PST Debrief

Mario Juric

New PST meeting format, once per quarter, longer working meetings, make them more productive per trip. This meeting was 2 days long.  Robert Lupton and Mario Juric presented on hybrid focal plane, little impact except on image differencing and templates. Different responses in u-band. Need different templates, built more often, still okay to have hybrid, but prefer homogeneous. No DM actions yet. Steve Ritz working on document, ultimately an LCR will be prepared.

Also discussed retention of data releases on disk in operations (all, not just last 2 releases). Unknown User (jalt), Kian-Tat Lim started analyzing cost impact with sizing model, ticket is in. Jacek Becla says may change value of shared scans. Robert Lupton volume of data on disk is what is important, SDSS (Szalay) experience is that access of older releases is occasional, e.g. when need to reproduce a paper. Kian-Tat Lim says there will probably be several cadences, fast, medium, slow.

According to Victor Krabbendam:

Good PST meeting last week. Some key discussions included:

  • Progress continues with System wide parameters database : George will be working on a Project-wide SE workshop to coordinate between subsystems
  • Plans are being made to do an update to the SRD: all changes are expected to be clarifications
  • Report on hybrid focal plane is forthcoming will focus on  preference for single-vendor focal plane, but hybrid focal plane is acceptable.
  • Discussion of filter performance measurements seemed to stay an open issue but lots of good discussion about all of calibration
  • There was more but I will look at minutes this week to see what is necessary to pass along.
Boot CampKian-Tat Lim

Other businessJeff KantorSimon Krughoff knows via Rachel Bean that DESC is working on roadmap, has data challenges, wanted to know about synchronizing data challenges with DM plans. Kian-Tat Lim discussed with Rachel Bean what datasets we plan to use for verification. Unknown User (nidever) is/should be in contact. Rachel Bean is supposed to give Kian-Tat Lim access to DESC roadmap. Frossie Economou says most SQuaRE tests are more limited, do not need full-blown data challenge. Gregory Dubois-Felsmann there are workflow, tool-chain validation reasons to do data challenges. Robert Lupton data challenges also show what you need to do to validate the data. Kian-Tat Lim is the "official" voice of DM in this area.
