WhoNotes
JimB
  • Perry is close to finishing up the C++ repackaging which was the main task they wanted to get done this sprint.
  • Jim has one more design issue on which he'll make some more progress on but he won't finish.
JohnS
  • The Princeton (including honorary Princetonian Perry Gee) and UW teams will plan their next sprint on Wednesday. They will be focussed on the science pipeline.
  • John has been putting together notes on CAM (Cost Accounting Management) to explain the JIRA to PMCS accounting protocol used by the DM Technical Managers.
KTL
  • See the email: "[LSST|dm-devel #86] Middleware meeting notes, 2014-11-25" for the MW teams detailed status report.
    • SteveP is transferring his attention to control events.
    • All of the AP prototype is running and failling and recovery pretty well. There are some design issues that have been exposed that they need to think about.
  • K-T is working mostly on the 'RFC' RFC. It is moving towards a conclusion. He will shortly publish to the wider DM.
  • K-T is also working on his portion of the ComCam document being put together by Chuck Claver.
SimonK + RussellO
  • The UW team, in concert with the Princeton team, will be planning their next sprint on Wednesday.
  • Regarding this spring: Russell did well and came in on budget (of time); Simon not so well. Simon underestimated his billable hours this month. The motto: "Live and Learn" will guide him in planning his future sprints.
  • The UW group has made significant progress on their hiring: all the jobs posted. They are reviewing the applications for the faculty position - which hopefully they'll start inviting on soon.
  • Russell and Simon are sketching out the meas_astrom rewrite. They will start that next sprint.
JacekB
  • Jacek reports no blockers.
  • The Data Access meeting notes have been posted in Confluence: Data Access Hangout 2014-11-24
  • The Data Access team will be setting up a QSERV instance at SLAC for the SUI team. So they will have faster cycles in case there are any problems that need to be fixed for them.
  • The DB team is finishing their sprint but may be short a day due to the holiday. Jacek said they seem to be on-time.
  • Jacek is working on the XLDB Conference in the background - the agenda, committee, etc.
FrossieE
  • Frossie finished up all the outstanding JIRA issues.
  • She prepared a proof of concept for using the external JIRA API.
    • She worked out how to add a whole bunch of watchers for specific components through the API.
    • She wants to start externalizing some of that logic where the API supports it so we don't need to tie ourselves to a plug-in which may go away.
  • Frossie is hoping to get back to preparing the Release this week.
    • She and K-T will determine the correct Release number to use.
    • It was decided at the meeting that getting that out was higher priority than anything else for her.
  • Frossie inquired about the Interface Meetings
    • Margaret said the proposed meeting this Friday wouldn't work due to the holiday.
    • The recurring meetings will be on Friday's right after the Coordination Standup meeting and on the same google hangout line.
    • Frossie tasked Robyn with setting up the meeting on the DM Meetings calendar. (FYI: it has been done)
  • K-T asked where we are with GitHub
    • Frossie hasn't had the time to attempt the Stash import to GitHub.
    • She reminded the group that she still needs to prepare the information packet for the CCB review: docs due Dec 5 and Mtg on 12th.
  • Frossie noted that there is now a better Confluence - Hipchat link now.
    • She will send the information to IainG to request an upgrade.
  • Frossie mentioned that she is looking at alternative video conferencing systems on behalf of LSST core
    • She said if any DM developers would like to help in the video conferencing testing then drop her a line.
      • Sounds as though Simon and Mario volunteered and together would constitute an adequate test team.
      • Simon said that for DM's needs Mario was quite happy with the google apps option to get +5 users at a minimal cost.
      • Frossie indicated that LSST core wants support for the various Science Collaborations and that the google app participant limit was too low.
XiuqinW
  • Xiuqin commented on the productive continuing discussions they are having with the DB group.
  • Xiuqin is learning about the stories and sprint planning a little bit better now. Maybe next week they will starting the planning more regularly.
  • The team is cleanly separating the Firefly core part from the IRSA application-related bits so it will be ready for Open Source licensing.
      • Scribe's note: Firefly is a configurable system for building web-based user interfaces.
    • Xiuqin is looking at various options for open source licensing (MIT, BSD, etc)
    • K-T offered to talk to her if she has additional questions. He suggested that she find a package that does something similar to what she wants and then just use the same type of license on her package.
    • Frossie suggested that she look at: http://ChooseALicense.com/ which provides a comparison of the various options available.
MargaretG
  • The NCSA team had a local group meeting on Monday
    • DonP has made progress on the Cyber Security Plan - organizing all the fundamental documents, then making the master Policy document so they can outline everything else that needs to be included.
    • The Infrastructure team has been delayed purchasing any hardware since they are still working out the purchasing policies. Right now they are assessing what they might need and also working with the current computing environment they have setup at NCSA.
    • MikeF is looking at optimizing data movement which consists of "millions of files of about a MB each". So he's bundling those and exploring globus online to try to transfer them quickly. The speed is pretty promising on that.
    • Margaret wants to make a scrum board for the NCSA team but she doesn't think she has adequate permission to even create sprints.
      • Frossie and she will solve this problem.
