WhoNotes
Jacek
  • Jacek noted that lots was happening in his area.
  • Vaikunth, a student from Texas A&M/Fermilab, has arrived; he's learning quickly. He will be helping with data integration tests.
  • The team had a lively telecon with the IPAC people about data access and SUI interfaces.
  • There are no blockers to progress on the qserv side or anywhere else.
  • Jacek added a comment directed to Frossie and Simon.
    • Jacek is interested in the template for fits headers. Which would be useful for his team since they need to generate headers from the metadata. This is not urgent but he wants to let them know that there is a customer that is waiting and would be happy to use the template.
    • Simon: "I think the camera team should be in on that conversation, too."
Jim
  • Jim said that since there were no substantive complaints about their proposal for C++ part of the measurement design, Perry has started implementing that and Jim did a little bit on it. Jim will be spending the rest of this week on HSC work.
John
  • John said there was not much additional news beyond what Jim mentioned.
  • He and Laura have been getting up to speed with the code. They are both at the stage where they are actually starting to do useful minor tasks.
  • Robert: "John, are you going to write up a description of what was hard to learn or what we could have been done better, or whatever else which would have been helpful?"
    • John said he could do that. He and Laura will work together on this.
    • K-T added that all newcomers should always capture any problems they had so that we can improve our processes.
    • John said he'd be likely to create a Q&A
K-T
  • There was MW meeting this morning. See the dm-devel maillist for the notes.
  • Greg is waiting for feedback from Simon.
    • He's working on the Docker stuff with Simon.
    • He's also looking at 'fig' and writing up an evaluation of that.
    • He also needs to reorganize and create some more epics for his workplan - hopefully in combination with Margaret.
  • Steve is waiting for feedback from Dave Mills about the OCS MW; Steve is also waiting for feedback from the Condor team on some stuff that he sent them. In the meantime, Steve has plenty of items to work on so he's not blocked.
  • Robert: "I saw a reference to tcl-tk. Is that legacy or are you actually writing something in tck-tk as part of this?"
  • K-T said that DM MW isn't writing anything but the OCS MW team have written some tcl-tk scripts in their MW.
Margaret
  • Margaret mentioned that they have their local meeting on Monday where they went over the JIRA info they learned at the DMLT Meeting last week.
    • She talked with Greg about making shorter epics and more stories.
  • Margaret is just getting on-board.
  • Robert: " I think there were a lot of side-line discussions at the meeting at IPAC about what was the scale of a story, a task, an epic, a project or the level above that. I don't think we fully resolved that yet. I think that Simon and maybe John didn't necessarily agree with what I think that Mario thinks, and Mario may be not agree with that I think that Mario thinks. So we probably need to address that."
    • John: "I agree with that.....". John, over the next few months as the above process is refined, will start to build of a 'Best Practices' catch-all to clarify that process.
    • K-T thinks that putting that into the DM Developers Guide would be a "good thing."
    • John said he's not going to sit down and write up a monolithic document; rather he will create a Q&A document as content presents itself.
    • Mario emphasized that the information will continue to be changed as the best methods are determined. And if John feels that some new twist isn't going to work, he should let Mario know that it's not the right way to proceed.
Mario
  • Mario was busy yesterday,as was Robert, with the PST meeting.
  • He's giving a seminar today at UW.
  • Tomorrow he will start following up all the discussions at the DMLT meeting and turn what he thought was some semblance of a consensus into updates to relevant Confluence documents. That also include him reading all the email that arrived this morning.
  • He will also be reading on the ComCam design document - to see if anything needs to be added or revised.
Robert
  • Robert has nothing additional to report.
Simon
  • Simon was busy tomorrow on-boarding the new Simulations hire.
  • Russell has been making progress on the obs_test. That's out for review.
  • There are no blockers to report.
  • He created a new astrometry maillist that interested parties in DM as well as interested parties in ZTF can collaborate on.
    • Mario suggested the maillist be sent to dm-announce and also the the ZTF folks.
    • Simon has the emails from the DM/ZTF meeting and will ensure all of them are on the list. He welcomes additions, too.
Xiuqin
  • The SUI group is working actively with the DB group to get a user at IPAC up and running locally so SUI can try to plan their application with the DB products.
    • The DB group is very supportive answering questions and helping the SUI group out. They had a good discussion this morning.
