Other Discussion Topics

By topic

Rubin Observatory Network Verification:

As noted, tests to start by the end of this month.

Rubin Observatory Networks, SLAs for Operations:

Nothing new in the way of updates to report.

Virtual NOC:

The IU GNoc staff participated in the meeting.  There was considerable discussion about specifically what the GNoc would be expected to monitor as part of providing a virtual NOC service, including numbers and types of devices to be monitored.  The GNoc staff had an old LHN topology map from LSE-479 that included NCSA and its Chicago connectivity.  They were pointed to the most current version of topology, as contained in LSE-479 today.  Julio asked if there was a template of information that needed to be provided on devices monitored by the GNoc.  Corey (CD) said there was such a template that identifies type, configuration, and location of monitored devices.  There was also a lengthy discussion on options for data collection from LHN devices.  The GNoc can adapt to either a pull model or a push model.  If a pull model is to be utilized, the service providers and end sites would likely need to provide a proxy service.  Jeronimo noted that the GNoc currently provides monitoring services for AmLight.  David (DR) asked whether user reports on issues/problems were expected to be reported to the GNoc as part of the virtual NOC service.  It is not clear at this point whether that would be the case.  Corey (CD) noted that maintenance & change announcements would be expected to be reported to the GNoc.  David (DR) thought the GNoc virtual NOC service would more likely get implemented as a pull model, gathering and/or generating alerts, and notifying interested parties.  Julio requested the GNoc staff to continue to participate in NET meetings.  He also pointed out the timeline for having a virtual NOC service in place is by the end of this year.  Josh added that it will be important to develop an understanding of what will be required by the service providers and end sites, so effort estimates can be developed and budgeted for.

Document update status summary

LSE-78 :   This has been submitted to the formal change process.

LSE-479:  Still a work in progress, pending forthcoming topology changes.

O&M :   Also still a work in progress.
