Discussion items
Time (PT) | Item | Who | Notes |
---|---|---|---|
NET Action Items Status | Reminder: Work on your action items: International Communications (aka Long-Haul Networks) Documentation updates schedule: January - Continued work on LSST Network Verification Plan (including JIRA). February - Continue work on LSST Network Verification Plan (including JIRA). Develop draft LSST Operations Network SLAs. Schedule and prepare for LSST Networks Review. Submit LSST Change Request to update LSE-78 LSST Observatory Network Design (including Chilean, International, and US networks) and related milestones in PMCS. Including updated diagrams, including ESnet, etc. Complete work on LSST Network Verification Plan (including JIRA). | ||
Update on CONUS Networks | CONUS Networks, including ESnet: ESnet6 optical line system being installed (East to West, now up to Chicago/Nashville). ATL - NASH fiber (OSCAR circuit is down, so failed over to other path). Not much traffic over these links yet. Won't have any real data until we to put LATISS data on it, then ComCAM on bench, then ComCAM on sky. Not a lot of traffic until ComCAM on sky. Working on plan to put higher volume of test data sooner. | ||
Chilean/International Networks Update | Developments in La Serena and end-to-end service to NCSA for upcoming Auxiliary Telescope Traffic and general (internet, mail, voice) traffic: LSST Auxiliary Telescope Imager and Slitless Spectrograph (LATISS) and servers have arrived in Chile, installation complete, started on-sky observing. They are taking data on-sky about a week per month. It's being ingested by OODS on the summit, and transferred to NCSA in ways that involve rsync and crontab. However, it currently goes over AURA links, not LSST links. Unknown User (rlambert)will be there in February to switch over. There is a VLAN and BGP session now (same as DTN), will renumber machines and use this. DAQ is no longer doing crosstalk correction (LCR-1923), so less traffic South - North now. Not yet clear what implications are (e.g. # of forwarders, use of bandwidth), will discuss implications at February 24 - 27 DMLT meeting. Updated LSST Dataflows slide. | ||
NCSA - CC-IN2Pe Networks update | Unknown User (kollross) | NCSA - CC- IN2P3 network: GEANT will have 100G links available to Lyon in a few months. Will then test links between Paris - Lyon, London - Lyon. | |
Other Discussion Topics | By topic | LSST Network Document Update: Julio IbarraJeff Kantor https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ZvpaHwIzHHMuqRXJEornIgQNH_8tP_EfiV6S1SzyonU/edit Many updates received, a few areas still need to be reviewed and finalized. Target to be ready for LCR to LSE-78 (before March NET meeting.) LSST Network Verification: Jeff Kantor LSST Networks needs to be formally verified as ready for LSST System Integration and Commissioning. 2019-07-11 Meeting published a list of requirement to be verified and a diagram of the JIRA test artifacts that must be done. (NOTE: Confluence can't render the JIRA test artifacts attachment, but it is a valid JPG file. Download it to view it.) Also Network Verification Plan and Matrix are now superceded by LDM-732 (attached), generated from the LSST V&V JIRA Project (LVV), referenced on LSST-NET home page. Management wants a network verification readiness review sometime in February - March, need to schedule and set scope. Try to do shortly after LCR for LSE-78 and Tech Doc Baseline. LSST Networks, SLAs for Operations: Jeff Kantor FIU flow-down SLAs provided, will use as template for others. Waiting for: Revising Ops Proposal, exploring acceleration of ops funding for networks. Proposal update update due beginning of March, Directors Review March 24/26 LSST doing due diligence on networks for various operations models with DOE paying 50% and NSF paying 50%. Still no decision and not clear what implications are, should have decision and discuss implications at February 24 - 27 DMLT meeting. Virtual NOC: Jeronimo Bezerra, Unknown User (rlambert), Albert Astudillo, Unknown User (kollross) Vincenzo Capone We need to fill out GlobalNOC network assessment questionnaire. Ed's Advanced North Atlantic (ANA) Consortium, Networks for European, American, and African Research (NEAAR) group is a GlobalNOC customer, neutral and helping to facilitate. Renewal for ANA transatlantic connections coming up soon, may change links somewhat. Ed is in these discussions and can be liaison. EXISTING ACTION ITEM Network Security: The US Federal government is asking us to respond to securing networks against exploiting LSST images to find satellites. The project has drafted a response (DMTN-108) and some of us have provided comments, but we owe description of options for attenuation monitoring, data encryption at L2, L3. EXISTING ACTION ITEM | |
Network Design and End-to-End Test Plan and QoS planning | Existing perfSonar node back in La Serena two new ones have been received, one will go on summit, other in base on LSST side. Ready to start to test resilience. Have multiple paths LS - NCSA. Need to Use DTNs, not just perfSonar. Will use NUTTCP to generate test traffic. Need to define how to provide Verification and Validation and regular automated testing and fail-overs. (See V&V discussion as well). Moving to Monet primary path this week. | ||
