Preparing for LSE-78 and LSE-309 change requests.

(Still in the queue, will try to find time before July 30 JSR.)

0815Network Design and End-to-End Test Plan and QoS planning

Status update. Waiting on DTN and Corsa switch purchase to be delivered to La Serena, will be in place by September. Some equipment will go to LS, equipment to install in Level 3 will go to REUNA office.Unknown User (rlambert) will be in La Serena from  - , try to deliver by then so he can configure.

LSST Network 2018 and SC18 Demonstrations:

Jeff Kantor The LSST Project Plan has a milestone for this year to demonstrate a 100 Gbps data transfer LS - NCSA over the long-haul networks. There is an existing action to define the demonstration. Earlier discussions pointed to LS - Miami only demonstration (e.g. without i2 and defer until ESnet ready), but it would be stronger to go to NCSA, e.g. maybe demo in 2 parts. Also there have been discussions about an SC demonstration which might also serve this purpose. We need a confirmed plan. Unknown User (kollross) was identified as lead for this demonstration.

We turned in 2 LSST science cases for the SCinet 2018 proposal (low latency image data transfer, PB data release transfer). Harvey Newman is arranging for 400G or N x 100 Gbps service in SCinet Core at SC18 venue, and wants to know how many N is for us (presumably to NCSA booth, see diagram in SC18ConfigV8_hbnam072118.pptx). SCinet will connect to Chicago/NCSA. FIU can support connection Florida to Chicago. 100G capable DTN's are being shipped to Santiago.

See LSST SC18 use case document (work in progress). Additional questions/discussion:

Can NCSA host DTN and large display in their booth? No room in booth for this.

Does NCSA have DTN that is 100 Gbps, disk-to-disk capable? No DTN at NCSA can do disk-to-disk now, would have to be a purchase approved by LSST and NCSA.

Can NCSA support 100 Gb connection to Starlight? NCSA's internet2 connection lands at 600W Chicago, not Starlight. Starlight

Can NCSA provide monitor and display data coming from SCInet 100 G to booth?

LSST key milestones relevant to Long-Haul Networks:

Here is a list of key milestones for the project. We added a description the active links, equipment, bandwidths, and available services at each point for upcoming integration and commissioning reviews. Merged version is attached:

20180712 Month End Baseline Milestones for LHN.xlsx

There is an issue with ESnet timing, which is not available until FY20. Need to revise end-to-end and ESnet columns.

REMINDER: Jeronimo Bezerrato make one more revision to sheet for above.

After that, Jeff Kantorwould like to see a diagram(s) for each milestone to go with the table. This is to support verification/validation and commissioning reviews. Jeff thinks many of these diagrams exist, just need to collect and reference.

Network Monitoring: THIS WILL BE NEXT MAJOR NET TASK AFTER SC18 DEMO

Unknown User (avillalo) is working on a monitoring system for the Summit - Base IT complex. He has asked if he can get status information about the networks to include in this monitoring system. This brings back up the question of the Virtual NOC and network monitoring in general. We should define a baseline for the VNOC and discuss with him how he can get information for the Summit - Base IT monitor.

AURA Link: THIS IS LAST UPDATE UNTIL NCOA

Jeff Kantor , Julio Ibarra, Unknown User (rlambert), Chris Smith, Jeronimo Bezerra starting discussions on extending/leveraging AURA 40 Gb link. REUNA and FIU have confirmed that AURA will have 10 Gbps guaranteed, burstable to 40 Gbps all the way to Miami. Not clear how AURA centers can leverage this from Miami. This will be discussed before Chris Smith sunsets (he is leaving for the NSF in August).

Site Redundancy in Santiago/Chilean networks: Julio Ibarra,Sandra Jaque

See document Julio Ibarra circulated examining ways to get site redundancy in Santiago. Julio Ibarra would like to develop MOA that can be baselined so that we all agree to plan, 2 purposes: improve resilience, clearly document provider roles and responsibilities. Sandra Jaque says still analyzing. In future, there will be other connection points in Santiago ring for networks (e.g. Northern Chile, new channel from Brazil). Similarly, RNP is still working out providers for Sao Paolo - Santiago, coordinating increases on bandwidth on Monet coordinated with this link. Pursue both via SAACC? Discuss in Tikal.
