0810Requirements Clarifications and Verification Plans

Update:

Nothing new to report.

0815Network Design and End-to-End Test Plan and QoS planning

Update:

New solution being tested, using the Brocade SLX, that will replace MLXE box.  Testing this solution.  Paused because of SC17.  Not much to report on QoS and E2E plan.  Methodology is ready.  Next steps is to test solution in test lab.
Reaching 95Gbps with 1 NIC.  Documented in report.  Testing against another DTN located in Brazil.  Testing with FDT.
QoS report.  Will be available after call.

0845First fiber optic light event planning

Reports from leads regarding demonstration:

Unknown User (rlambert) Cerro Pachon - La Serena. AURA DWDM installation status. Raylex on site, installed racks, DWDM systems in LS, working on CP. Hung up due to grounding problem, making new mesh for equipment. Telefonica working on fiber connectivity issue in La Serena PoP. Can see from PoP to LS and from PoP to CP, but not LS to CP. Stops at 3.5km. (ASIDE: Rack also installed and 5Kva power, as specified by NCSA, is on track for February/March visit). Doing testing on Friday 11/10.

Jeronimo Bezerra Santiago - Chicago, overall architecture/plan. According to L3 timeline, REUNA - AmLight cross connects will be in this week or next. Could not support Santiago involvement in ADASS or Supercomputing due to missing cross connects. Target date for Summit - NCSA demonstration is - . Current 8 x 10 Brocade switch is ready and dedicated for demonstration, has enough 10G ports and 100G module. Need to reorganize assets in L3 center, for example would like 3 REUNA connections to move to Slot 1 from Slot 2. Need to provision VLANs Santiago to NCSA. Upgraded firmware.  Switches are prepared for demo. Vinicius to travel to SCL to assist with demo.  VPN router to be installed to improve connectivity to cabinet. Not a problem leaving network and servers in place. The infrastructure can be used for other testing.

Albert Astudillo for Sandra Jaque La Serena - Santiago. REUNA DWDM installation status. Almost done with LS - Santiago, 7 of 8 nodes in place. Today, working on installation of DWDM in La Serena. Entire network will be in place, doing testing on Friday 11/10. P2P REUNA - L3 is also running, has been fine for 3 weeks. Was part of ADASS demo.

Unknown User (kollross) Chicago - Champaign. No change.

Jeff Kantor Requirements. Can be just NET "witnessing" demonstration live. We will accumulate logs, statistics regarding data rate, p2p link to link performance, latency, etc. i.e. "standard" network performance measurements. We will combine that into report with configuration, description and deliver to LSST management. Later we will jointly draft press release, etc.

Other businessAny
Presentation at ADASS
Jeronimo Bezerra presentation was well received.  Received a lot of feedback and questions.
Paper submission is due.  Requested comments from everyone listed as author.

Tucson network connection
Shahram Sobhani (network engineer in Tucson) - time frame for speed improvement between Tucson and LS? Dedicated line between Miami and Tucson?
Jeff Kantor Only 10G service planned to Tucson. Will have connectivity via AURA DWDM equipment at the end of demo.  This will not increase capacity at Tucson.  We do not anticipate a large increase in Tucson. LSST dedicated infrastructure that is planned will primarily benefit connection from LS to NCSA.  Tucson will not benefit from this.  At the same time, AURA is increasing their capacity to 40 Gb for NOAO, CTIO, Gemini, SOAR, etc. AURA North and South will be getting additional circuits.  This will benefit Tucson including LSST for email, web, video, etc.
Julio Ibarra commented about potential bottlenecks at the campus or regional networks, Tucson should look into this, FIU can help.
Korea
Jeronimo Bezerra Guys from Korea claim they will be downloading data sets from Chile. AST people in Korea who are related to LSST project.
Jeff Kantor says this not an official LSST capability or agreement, he will coordinate on the Korea demo.

Agenda is focused on demonstration only.

Action items

  •  Albert Astudillo prepare new diagram showing all connections, present at next NET meeting.
  • Jeff KantorJulio IbarraUnknown User (rlambert) to brief Shahram Sobhani on Tucson connectivity when new network is implemented. This activity has generated a discussion among all the AURA users of the new 40 Gb connectivity between La Serena and Santiago, and which will probably be extended to Miami on LSST funds.  Beyond that point, how to leverage this to connect AURA centers is a strategic discussion.  Jeff Kantor has started to connect with all the relevant AURA parties and we hope to commission an "AURA Network Strategy" document in several months.  I am closing this action out pending the development of the strategy document.
  • Jeronimo BezerraJeff Kantor coordinate demonstration for Korea
